Lieutenant Colonel Jack Mattson was born in 1946 in Port Hueneme, California, and grew up as the son of a Navy family, moving frequently during his early years. Following high school, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in December 1965 and was deployed to Vietnam as a machine gunner. Upon returning, he was promoted to Sergeant and assigned to the Marine Barracks at Lake Mead Base in Las Vegas, Nevada, where he completed his enlisted service in 1969.
After earning his bachelor’s degree from San Diego State University, Jack was commissioned as a Marine Corps officer in 1974. Over the course of his distinguished career, he served in a variety of roles including Infantry Officer, Supply Officer, Logistics Officer, and Special Staff Officer. He commanded multiple logistics organizations and served as Director of Logistics Training at Landing Force Training Command in Coronado, California.
LtCol Mattson continued his professional development at Redlands University, where he earned a master’s degree in business management. He retired from the Marine Corps in 1996 after 26 years of combined enlisted and officer service. His military honors include the Meritorious Service Medal and the Navy Commendation Medal.
Following his military career, Jack transitioned into the private sector, where he owned and operated Applied Engineering. After selling the company, he served for nine years as Chief Executive Officer of Valiant Technologies, Inc., an international manufacturing firm based in San Diego, California. He later became an Independent Associate with LegalShield, achieving the level of Silver Executive Director and building an organization of more than 5,000 associates.
A dedicated community leader, Jack has served the Burleson community as both an Ambassador and Chairman of the Burleson Area Chamber of Commerce. He is also a Past Commandant of the Marine Corps League Longhorn Detachment 1069, serving the Crowley and Burleson areas.
Jack has been married to his high school sweetheart, Wanda, for over 56 years. Together, they have three children and five grandchildren.
