Joining a Marine Corps League in Your Area
As we approach our 250th birthday on November 10th, consider joining a Marine Corps League detachment. Joining the Marine Corps League is a meaningful way to stay connected with fellow Marines, Navy FMF Corpsmen, and their families. It’s a chance to honor the proud traditions of the Marine Corps while supporting veterans and their communities. If you’re considering becoming part of this respected organization, you’re in the right place! I’ll walk you through everything you need to know about joining a Marine Corps League detachment near you, the benefits of membership, and how to get started.
Discovering Marine League Chapters Near You
Marine Corps League detachments are the heart of the Marine Corps League. These local detachments provide a welcoming environment where Marines and Navy FMF Corpsmen can gather, share experiences, and work together on community projects. Each chapter operates independently but shares the same mission: to promote the interests of the U.S. Marine Corps, preserve its traditions, strengthen the fraternity among Marines and their families, and foster the ideals of Americanism and patriotic volunteerism.
Finding a chapter close to home is easier than you might think. Many communities have active detachments that host regular meetings, social events, and volunteer opportunities. Visit the Marine Corps League detachment locator to search online or ask fellow Marines.
Joining a chapter means you’ll be part of a network that values camaraderie, service, and tradition. Whether you want to participate in parades, assist with veteran outreach, or simply enjoy the company of fellow Marines, there’s a place for you.

What to Expect When You Join a Marine League Detachment
When you become a member of a Marine Corps League detachment, you step into a community that respects your service and shares your values. Here’s what you can expect:
Regular Meetings: Most chapters hold monthly meetings where members discuss upcoming events, community service projects, and organizational business. These meetings are a great way to stay informed and involved.
Community Service: Chapters often organize volunteer activities such as supporting veterans’ hospitals, participating in memorial ceremonies, and helping families in need.
Social Events: From barbecues to holiday celebrations, social gatherings help build strong bonds among members and their families.
Support Network: Being part of the Marine Corps League means having access to a network of people who understand the unique challenges and rewards of military life.
Leadership Opportunities: Members can take on leadership roles within their detachment, helping to shape the direction and impact of the organization.
Joining is straightforward. You’ll need to provide proof of your service as a Marine or Navy FMF Corpsman, complete an application, and pay membership dues. Many detachments welcome family members as associate members, allowing loved ones to participate and support the mission.

What Does a Membership Cost?
The MCL (Marine Corps League) membership fee varies, with an annual fee often around $40-$45 for regular members and a life membership fee that is age-based, ranging from $100 to $1,000. Some detachments may also have specific first-year fees and prorated fees for joining late in the membership year.
If you’re thinking about long-term involvement, a lifetime membership might be the right choice. It offers the convenience of a one-time payment and shows your lasting commitment to the Marine Corps League.
Life Membership Fees effective 1 July 2023:
$1000.00 – 35 years of age and lower
$ 800.00 – 36-50 years of age
$ 600.00 – 51-64 years of age
$ 400.00 – 65-84 years of age
$ 100.00 – 85 years of age and higher
The above Fees are only available if the member’s annual dues have been paid and the member is in good standing.
Since these fees can differ slightly by detachment, it’s a good idea to check with your local detachment for exact pricing. Lifetime membership includes all the benefits of regular membership without the need to pay annual dues. It’s a smart investment if you plan to stay active in the Marine Corps League for many years.
Remember, a lifetime membership not only supports the organization financially but also strengthens the bond among Marines who share a lifelong commitment to service.

How to Get Involved and Make the Most of Your Membership
Once you join a Marine Corps League detachment, the real fun begins! Here are some practical tips to help you get involved and enjoy your membership fully:
Attend Meetings Regularly: This is the best way to stay connected and informed. Your presence matters.
Volunteer for Events: Whether it’s a fundraiser, a community outreach program, or a memorial service, your help is always appreciated.
Network with Fellow Members: Building relationships can lead to lifelong friendships and valuable support.
Take Advantage of Resources: Many chapters offer educational programs, scholarships, and assistance for veterans and their families.
Stay Updated: Follow your chapter’s newsletters, social media, and announcements to ensure you never miss an opportunity.
By actively participating, you’ll not only honor the Marine Corps legacy but also contribute to a stronger, more supportive community.
